Back from Summer Break

I took the summer off from blogging. We played and worked, we got two kitties, we travelled.

Tomorrow is the first of September. I plan to post at least one photograph everyday, most likely taken with my iPhone (battery in real camera is super dead!). It's a "slice of life" sort of thing.

War & Peace Picasso style (project #15)

Last nights theme was War & Peace.
My last class in Picasso mode before the final show in 2 weeks!

Random shots at Louisiana in May

 Typical Louisiana view
Installation. Part of the Living exhibit this summer.
It's extremely inviting for children to climb on, but they are forbidden. It also looks like it would cave in if scaled. Most striking at night.

Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, Lunch in the grass-part2 (project #13 & # 14)

These two prints were inspired from Picasso's Lunch in the grass series. We drew and made impressions into a material that can be bought at a hardware store for insulating floors. It was a quick printmaking method. I enjoy printmaking and would like to explore this more in depth!

Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, Lunch in the grass (project #12)

This painting is the result of my workshop last night at Louisiana Museum for Modern Art. My painting "iPhones in the grass" is a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, etc, get it? A family portrait, a typical scene ALMOST with my husband leaning against a birch tree and Birch happens to be our surname. I can't say I hang outside topless with my iPhone, but that was part of the paraphrase.
Le Déjeuner sur l’herb, Picasso, 1961

Apologies, a really bad iPhone shot of
Le Déjeuner sur l’herb, Paul Cézanne, 1876

Le Déjeuner sur l’herb, Manet, 1863
(from my Janson's Art History Book)

and we can go even further back with
The Judgement of Paris, Marcantonio Raimondi, after Raphael, c.1520
(from my Janson's Art History Book)

and once more back in time

River Gods, detail

Is my painting original? No. It's traditional.

"Me Draw On iPad" David Hockney

My friend Linda is an artist on canvas as well as iPad and jewelry and bikini designer, is visiting next week and I'll have to take her to see this exhibit. It was everything I thought it might be when I saw the poster. I thought, are they going to hang a bunch of iPad's around the walls in the museum. They did. And the fun part they use the play back feature, so you can see all the steps and thought process Hockney uses while drawing. The exhibit is intimate, a small, darkened room, and you have to stand quite close to the iPads while they are on a slide show of drawings.

These are two sketches I made while sitting on an airplane with my iPhone trying to distract myself from the heavy turbulence. Simple and guadeloupe inspired.

Zentangle - Project # 11

We made zentangles in our last Vison Book workshop.

Project 10, Louisiana workshop - Picasso

This project was very challenging. We used photos of ourselves to cut up and assemble back together to make a Picasso inspired portrait. I got stuck on the fact that I could not change the scale like I could when you just sketch it out yourself. We did another painting a few weeks ago with the skull and that was also one figure with different angles. That seemed easier for me to move around the object and sketch at the same time. In the end, it's great to try new techniques and it's up to us if we use them again in our own work at home.

Day trip to Sweden

 Krapperup Slot, slot means castle.

 Anemone

Signs of Spring at the castle
Lunch at castle. Tasted as fantastic as it looks!
 On the way to Mölle

 Mölle Harbor
 Swedish clogs
The best Apple juice ever!!! From Höganäs.
The Grand Hotel, Mölle, Sweden.

We ended the day by shopping as every store in Denmark was closed that Thursday for Easter. The parking lots were filled with Danish cars everywhere we went.

Vision Book meeting 7 & project 9

We started off our Vision Book meeting by each of us making a weaving.
First, we each filled a paper with color from pastels, cut them into strips, and we traded strips to make a unique piece symbolizing how our uniqueness is woven into the community. Our kids joined in too seeing that it was Easter break and they were home from school. This was fun to do with grownups and kids!

Project #8 - Picasso inspired collage painting

All students began with a stack of the same papers.
We made a collage inspired by the Picasso work we discussed in the gallery.
The final result, a painting after the collage we made.
