War & Peace Picasso style (project #15)

Last nights theme was War & Peace.

My last class in Picasso mode before the final show in 2 weeks!

Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, Lunch in the grass-part2 (project #13 & # 14)

These two prints were inspired from Picasso's Lunch in the grass series. We drew and made impressions into a material that can be bought at a hardware store for insulating floors. It was a quick printmaking method. I enjoy printmaking and would like to explore this more in depth!

This painting is the result of my workshop last night at Louisiana Museum for Modern Art. My painting "iPhones in the grass" is a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, of a paraphrase, etc, get it? A family portrait, a typical scene ALMOST with my husband leaning against a birch tree and Birch happens to be our surname. I can't say I hang outside topless with my iPhone, but that was part of the paraphrase.

Zentangle - Project # 11

We made zentangles in our last Vison Book workshop.

Project 10, Louisiana workshop - Picasso

This project was very challenging. We used photos of ourselves to cut up and assemble back together to make a Picasso inspired portrait. I got stuck on the fact that I could not change the scale like I could when you just sketch it out yourself. We did another painting a few weeks ago with the skull and that was also one figure with different angles. That seemed easier for me to move around the object and sketch at the same time. In the end, it's great to try new techniques and it's up to us if we use them again in our own work at home.

Vision Book meeting 7 & project 9

 

We started off our Vision Book meeting by each of us making a weaving.

First, we each filled a paper with color from pastels, cut them into strips, and we traded strips to make a unique piece symbolizing how our uniqueness is woven into the community. Our kids joined in too seeing that it was Easter break and they were home from school. This was fun to do with grownups and kids!

Project #8 - Picasso inspired collage painting

All students began with a stack of the same papers.

We made a collage inspired by the Picasso work we discussed in the gallery.

The final result, a painting after the collage we made.

Project #4 - Handmade Bread

I started making my own bread last September. I wasn't raised to do this, so handmade bread was kind of a mystery to me. It's actually quite easy! Now I'm using a recipe from my friend Marianne. The recipe is for bøller, but I made loaves today and Julian helped. 

Project #3

My third creative project was done with my son. We made these trees last fall for Halloween, then decorated them for Christmas, then Fastelavn, now we painted them green for Easter, and Julian decorated them himself. Also part of Living colorfully!

Project #2-Louisiana Art Workshop-Picasso's Doves of Peace.

I produced about 30 drawings, one painting, and three sculptures of Doves last night in 2 1/2 hours. That includes lecture time. We were busy. They are definitely not masterpieces. 

We learned that Picasso produced seven works of art a day! He used the symbol of the dove of peace throughout his life starting when he was eight years old. His father kept doves and Picasso often kept them himself throughout his life. I also learned that he was a member of the communist party, but the communists did not appreciate his art, long story short- they kept him as a member because he was so famous. Hmm.

Project #1 - Vision Book

I started a course this week called Vision Book. It's an eight step course designed to ignite your creativity and help you become the "Creative Director" in your life. Four of us met at Amber's home and a few more people are joining in on Skype. It's mostly meant to be an online course, but we are cheating a little since we live near each other and it's a good excuse to paint and be creative and make new friends. So, we drank tea and coffee while we heard more about the course, got to know each other, painted, laughed, meditated. In the end we got the creative juices flowing.
